10/10: Qantas tops on-time airline performance for 10 straight months

Qantas has racked up a new record as Australia’s most on-time major domestic airline for an unmatched 10 months in a row since performance records started in November 2003.

Qantas has racked up a new record as Australia’s most on-time major domestic airline for an unmatched 10 months in a row since performance records started in November 2003.

Bureau of Infrastructure & Transport Research Economics (BITRE) data for June 2023 showed Qantas and QantasLink achieved 71.4 per cent on-time performance, despite challenges of severe weather and AirServices Australia staffing shortages.

More than 94 per cent of Qantas and QantasLink flights in June 2023 took off within an hour of their scheduled departure time.

To improve on-time performance, new boarding procedures will be trialled at Brisbane Airport from next week followed by other major airports and a wider implementation in October 2023.

In line with the US and Europe, passengers will board in groups based on seating with group numbers included on boarding passes. Premium passengers will still have a dedicated priority boarding lane.

Qantas will also trial new gate infrastructure, signage and announcements for more efficient boarding.

Qantas COO Colin Hughes said the new initiatives will make boarding smoother and quicker and include a major redesign for the Qantas app to allow passengers to track bags and have more flexibility to manage bookings.

Don’t forget your clients’ travel credits!

The Double Points offer on COVID-era travel credits will also expire soon. To claim Double Points, your clients need to register at qantas.com/doubleqantaspoints and book an eligible flight with a QF flight number by 31 July 2023.

With COVID-era travel credits due to expire on 31 December 2023, QF customers can use the Find My Credit online tool and opt to redeem or refund their credits.

More than $1 billion has already been claimed across Qantas and Jetstar with around $400 million in remaining COVID-era travel credits still available.

Trips booked before the end of December are valid for travel to December 2024 (up to a maximum of 353 days in advance).
