Head’s up Lions & Swans fans! More AFL Grand Final 2024 flights added for Melbourne

After the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans' spectacular wins over the weekend, Qantas and Virgin Australia have upped AFL Grand Final 2024 flights from Brisbane and Sydney to Melbourne for interstate footy fans to attend the major event on 28 September.

After the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans’ spectacular wins over the weekend, Qantas and Virgin Australia have upped AFL Grand Final 2024 flights from Brisbane and Sydney to Melbourne for interstate footy fans to attend the major event on 28 September.

Qantas has added five extra flights between Brisbane and Melbourne over the AFL Grand Final weekend while Virgin Australia has eight additional flights between the two cities from 24-30 September.

This is in addition to QF’s 10 extra flights between Sydney and Melbourne and VA’s seven additional AFL Grand Final 2024 flights between 24-30 September.

QF one-way flights start from $419 while VA one-way flights are now on sale from $223 ex-Sydney and $350 ex-Brisbane.

Qantas has now added more than 2,100 seats than currently available on these routes and QF and Jetstar will continue to monitor demand to increase AFL Grand Final 2024 flights this week.

Friday 27 September is gearing up to be one of the busiest days in September with footy finals weekend coinciding with school holidays, meaning fares will be higher than average due to the reduced number of available seats and high demand.

Katy Perry will headline the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment at the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final on 28 September.

“To help Brisbane fans get to Melbourne next weekend, Qantas has added five flights between Brisbane and Melbourne. This is on top of the 10 AFL Grand Final 2024 flights Qantas Group added yesterday to help Sydney fans get to Melbourne to support their team,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson said VA has added up to 4,800 seats to and from Melbourne next weekend, reflecting the most additional services of any Aussie airline to help get fans to the Grand Final.

“Virgin Australia has seen huge demand in response to footy finals and is committed to helping fans get to and from next weekend’s Grand Final as the official airline partner of the AFL,” they said.
