Air Canada raises commission for Aussie agents

Air Canada is giving Australian travel agents the chance to earn a little extra cash in the new year, by raising its standard base commission.

Air Canada is giving Australian travel agents the chance to earn a little extra cash in the new year, by raising its standard base commission.

Commencing 1 January, consultants will earn five percent for booking Business and Economy class published airfares – this is an increase from the current three percent.

The rise in commission comes as the carrier enters its biggest year in the market, with the introduction of Premium Economy from Sydney in May as well as the launch of its first non-stop Dreamliner service to and from Brisbane in June.

The airline is also offering double the checked baggage allowance for Australians travelling from 17 December, allowing them to holiday with two 23 kilogram bags – up from just one.

“The next 12 months will be one of the most exciting periods in Air Canada’s history.”

McLean continued, saying the commission increase will support its Australian travel industry partners, who ‘play a key role in the airline’s continued expansion’.

“We will do all we can to ensure travel agents share in our success,” he said.

The new five percent base commission applies to one-way and return Air Canada Business and Economy class published airfares plated to Air Canada 014 stock and ticketed in Australia on or after 1 January 2016.

All itineraries qualify for the new higher commission rate, with the exception of those originating in Canada or the United States.
