After soliciting bite-size submissions for the Great Kiwi Snack Off in April 2023, Air New Zealand needs five local taste testers to narrow down the snack-size contenders from a list of 30 NZ suppliers to add to its inflight menu.

Air NZ’s nationwide Kiwi snack search saw 400-plus suppliers bring options from nuts to nachos to the tray table.

Air New Zealand Chief Customer & Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty said: “We’ve had some incredible suppliers reach out with snacks of all shapes and flavours and some great stories to tell.”

The Air NZ lolly is a staple that will stay on board.

“Kiwis are passionate about snacks, so why not give the country’s most enthusiastic foodies a chance to be snacksperts and have their say on what we serve on board?”

Air NZ’s shortlist sampled more than 70 snacks to meet criteria such as options that are easy to transport and can be served without heating.

“We’ve got snacks that highlight classic Kiwi flavours, including tangy feijoas and kiwifruit, for our snacksperts to try. From cookies and bliss balls to chicken chips and crunchy cheese, it won’t be an easy task,” Ms Geraghty warned.

Air NZ will announce the final snack selection in the coming weeks.
