Want to fly as much as you like in a year? Wizz Air thinks it has just the thing for you. The European airline has unveiled a new subscription service that promises unlimited flights for a yearly fee. But, there’s a catch (or two).

For €599 (around AU$1,000), you can hop on any Wizz Air flight, anywhere they fly. That’s a lot of potential trips.

While membership covers all services across Wizz’s network – comprising 950 routes in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia – you can only book flights 72 hours before takeoff. So, spontaneity is key – and for those who like to plan in advance, the subscription might not be the best option. There’s also a €9.99 (about $17) fee for each flight. Plus, bags and seat picks cost extra.

While the new deal sounds great for flexible frequent flyers, for everyone else, Wizz Air’s Multipass, which lets you fly once a month for a monthly fee of between €34.99 to €64.99 ($58 to $108), might be better. There’s a little less freedom, but less stress too.

While the Hungarian airline is currently winning awards for being green (it recently picked up the gong for Most Sustainable Low-Cost Carrier at the World Finance Sustainability Awards 2024), some observers are worried the new all-you-can-fly offer might needlessly lift pollution levels. But the airline says the opposite is true.

“The new product…, in fact, contributes to maximising the load factor during the last 72 hours before the flight,” a Wizz Air spokesperson told Euronews.

“High load factor is a crucial efficiency driver and leads to reduction in emission intensity.

“Wizz Air is proud to have the lowest carbon emissions intensity among our airline competitors.”

According to Wizz Air, there will only be 10,000 of these subscriptions, which go live on 25 September. Refunds are available for 14 days after purchase.

“Once you have successfully paid for Wizz All You Can Fly, you can start booking your flights right away,” the carrier says on its website.

Wizz Air spokesperson Silvia Mosquera said the initiative is the first of its kind in Europe.

However, similar subscription packages are already available in North America, CNN reported.

For instance, in 2022, US carrier Frontier Airlines revealed a US$599 unlimited Go Wild! pass for its North American routes. Earlier this month, it announced a limited-time promotion for the pass for just US$299.

Last year, Wizz Air flew some 60 million passengers.
