There are few places where drinking at 8am feels perfectly acceptable, and the old adage/excuse “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” is never truer in an airport. Now, Stone & Wood and Bridge Road Brewers are about to make that pre-flight pint not just socially acceptable but genuinely worth looking forward to. These two iconic Aussie breweries are landing in Sydney and Melbourne Airports, proving craft beer might just be the ultimate pre-flight upgrade.
Airports are increasingly upping their hospitality game, recognising that modern travellers want more than a quick coffee or soggy sandwich. From boutique bars to gourmet dining, the shift is all about creating experiences that match the calibre of the journeys they serve. For brands like Stone & Wood and Bridge Road Brewers, this focus on quality offers the perfect stage to showcase their craft, giving travellers a true taste of local culture before they even leave the ground.
Stone & Wood takes off at Sydney Airport
For the first time ever, Stone & Wood is bringing its Byron Bay vibes to an airport setting. Located in Sydney Airport’s T3 Qantas Terminal, the bespoke bar is ready to serve up its legendary Pacific Ale, seasonal specials, and a taste of Northern Rivers charm (sadly sans Chris Hemsworth).

“This venue offers travellers a unique airport experience that celebrates great beer,” said Paul Tansley, Stone & Wood’s Head of Strategy and Creative.
The bar combines Stone & Wood’s laid-back ethos, partnering with SSP, the operator behind many of Sydney Airport’s dining options, to deliver the ultimate pre-flight pint.
Meanwhile, in Melbourne…
Not to be outdone, Bridge Road Brewers is about to bring Beechworth’s High Country hospitality to Melbourne Airport’s T1 Terminal on 4 February. Known for its warm pretzels, pizzas, and award-winning beers, this venue is all about giving travellers a little slice of Beechworth—even if they’re bound for Brisbane.

Founder Ben Kraus couldn’t be prouder: “This venue represents a new chapter for us, a chance to bring the authentic Bridge Road Brewers experience to a broader and more diverse audience.”
The bar’s design, courtesy of Studio Y, perfectly blends rustic charm with modern convenience. Think wooden textures, warm lighting, and just enough space to prop up your carry-on while enjoying a pint.
Why settle for duty-free when you can drink craft beer?
Both venues are raising the bar (pun fully intended) on airport drinking. Whether you’re in Sydney or Melbourne, you’ll find something special: Stone & Wood’s breezy Byron vibes or Bridge Road’s cosy Beechworth charm. Either way, you’re in for more than just a quick pint—you’re getting a taste of two iconic Aussie breweries without leaving the terminal.
So, the next time someone asks if you really need that beer before your flight, you can confidently say, “Yes. Yes, I do.” And you can say it’s in the name of culture.
