AIRPORT HOLIDAY: This tourist slept at Perth Airport for a week

Do you remember that episode of Kath and Kim where instead of having a honeymoon, Kath and Kel just spent two days at Melbourne airport having a great old time? Well, someone else decided to try that at Perth Airport recently.

Do you remember that episode of Kath and Kim where instead of having a honeymoon, Kath and Kel just spent two days at Melbourne airport having a great old time? Well, someone else decided to try that at Perth Airport recently.

Undoubtedly the 24 year-old Taiwanese man who spent a week at living Perth Airport didn’t have as much fun as Kath and Kel on their honeymoon though.

According to Perth Now Lee Chi Lin arrived in Western Australian on a working visa in July but failed to find work and began running out of money.

He couldn’t afford to rebook his prepaid October 5 ticket so decided to spend the month leading up to his flight at the airport.

“I tried to sleep in a park but it was so cold,” he was quoted saying.

During his week-long airport stay, he survived on a loaf of bread, packet noodles and tinned tuna and he wasn’t able to shower or sleep properly.

The guy was doing it tough, we’re not trying to make light oh that. But if he’d seen the famous Kath and Kim episode he could have picked up a few tips about hanging out in the internet cafe or trying to gain access to the Qantas Club lounge using a Video Easy card.

Despite what Kath and Kel made us think, apparently it’s not that easy to live at the airport with little to no money.

The Australian Federal Police spotted Lee Chi Lin during a routine patrol and asked Menzies Aviation passenger services manager Kathryn Weeks if she could help.

Weeks contacted his airline Scoot and said the airline agreed to rebook him on an earlier flight.

Apparently, she offered Lin money and somewhere to sleep but he wouldn’t accept and was “very humble, and well-spoken”.

“People in Australia are so nice and always treat other countries in a good way,” he is reported to have said.
