All flights cancelled: UK carrier Flybe ceases trading

Tens of thousands of passengers have been left without flights after UK regional airline Flybe announced it had ceased trading over the weekend.

Tens of thousands of passengers have been left without flights after UK regional airline Flybe announced it had ceased trading over the weekend.

It is the second time in three years, Flybe had ceased trading.

In messages posted on its website and social media on 28 January, the carrier said all flights from and to the UK operated by Flybe had been cancelled and would not be rescheduled.

It urged travellers who had been due to fly with the Birmingham-based airline to not travel to the airport unless they had arranged an alternative flight with another carrier. It added that it would not be able to arrange alternative flights for passengers.

“If you have a Flybe booking sold by an intermediary that includes travel on a Flybe flight, please contact the relevant airline or booking/travel agent to confirm if there is any impact to your travel plans as the intermediary may be able to support you with alternative arrangements and provide further advice regarding any claim you may need to make,” its statement read.

According to the BBC, around 2,500 passengers were due to travel with the carrier on Saturday, the day it made the announcement, while around 75,000 passengers in total had flights cancelled.

Flybe said the High Court had appointed David Pike and Mike Pink as Joint Administrators of Flybe Limited.

They confirmed 277 of the airline’s 321 staff would be made redundant.

Customers are advised to monitor Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority website for further information.

Flybe operated flights on 21 routes to 17 destinations across the UK and Europe.
