Flying just got an upgrade: American’s Australia-bound premium B787 aircraft debuts

American Airlines' newest Boeing B787-9P aircraft has taken flight, showcasing a premium configuration that includes the debut of the Flagship Suite, a reimagined Premium Economy cabin and a redesigned Main Cabin experience. What’s more, it’s coming to Brisbane at the end of 2025.

American Airlines‘ newest Boeing B787-9P aircraft has taken flight, showcasing a premium configuration that includes the debut of the Flagship Suite, a reimagined Premium Economy cabin and a redesigned Main Cabin experience. What’s more, it’s coming to Brisbane at the end of 2025.

American Airlines’ newly designed B787-9P aircraft will operate on the seasonal Brisbane-Dallas/Fort Worth route, which returns from 26 October 2025.

The customer-centric experience will offer 51 Flagship Suite seats, 32 Premium Economy seats and 161 Main Cabin seats.

The 244 onboard seats include eight Flagship Suite Preferred seats with up to 19 per cent more bed space and 42 per cent more living area.

What’s in store on board?

The Flagship Suite features a lie-flat seat with chaise lounge configuration, adjustable headrest pillow and a privacy door plus Brandon Blackwood amenity kits, a dual-side pillow and duvet blanket.

For those working during the flight, there is a wireless charging pad, USB-C power, Bluetooth connectivity and extra storage.

Long-haul international passengers have access to American’s Flagship lounge before departure, priority boarding and an inflight multicourse meal paired with award-winning wines.

The redesigned Premium Economy seats now have privacy headrest wings, adjustable calf and footrests and water bottle storage plus a wireless charging pad and Bluetooth connectivity.

Meanwhile, Main Cabin passengers can expect 4K QLED screens, USB-C and AC power at every seat and Bluetooth for a better inflight experience.

As American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden wrote in a note to the premium B787’s inaugural passengers flying from Chicago to LAX: “Everything you see on board was designed with you in mind: from the design details to Bluetooth connectivity to state-of-the-art entertainment, your comfort is our priority.”
