American Airlines launches free high-speed Wi-Fi in world's widest network rollout

American Airlines’ AAdvantage members will enjoy free, high-speed Wi-Fi powered by AT&T fleetwide from January 2026, including long-haul international routes, with satellite-enabled internet access available on more aircraft than any carrier globally.

American Airlines’ AAdvantage members will enjoy free, high-speed Wi-Fi powered by AT&T fleetwide from January 2026, including long-haul international routes, with satellite-enabled internet access available on more aircraft than any carrier globally.

The free, high-speed satellite-based Wi-Fi will be available across more than two million American Airlines flights per year, rolling out in phases throughout 2026.

The access will initially roll out on narrowbody and dual-class regional fleets in the US from January 2026 and be available on “nearly every” flight by mid-year.

AA’s new Boeing 787-9 and 787-8 aircraft will also feature free Wi-Fi. Once rollout is complete, American will offer free Wi-Fi on more aircraft than any other airline in the world.

More than 900 mainline aircraft are already equipped with high-speed satellite Wi-Fi connectivity through Viasat or Intelsat, which will enable the inflight streaming service, despite the carrier previously stating that Starlink will provide connectivity.

It builds on American’s already established inflight streaming capabilities as the first US airline to offer the service across its entire mainline fleet.

AA Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden said the rollout creates the foundation for future innovations in personalisation, digital service and a more seamless, premium travel experience.

“As American celebrates 100 years of delivering industry firsts, including the first loyalty program and first airport lounge, we’re setting the standard for connectivity in the skies,” she said.

“Free high-speed Wi-Fi isn’t just a perk – it’s essential for today’s travellers. That’s why we’re proud to begin rolling out this new offering, sponsored by AT&T, across the majority of our fleet.

“Once roll out is completed, every AAdvantage member can stay connected, stream and share almost anywhere their journey takes them for free,” she said.

American’s free, high-speed Wi-Fi will be available to AAdvantage members through the upgraded aainflight.com by simply using your number and password and selecting ‘Free Wi-Fi’. The AAdvantage loyalty program is free to join.
