Offering increased benefits for travellers, American Express and Velocity Frequent Flyer have upgraded their American Express Velocity credit cards.
The American Express Velocity Platinum Card now provides annual access to Virgin Australia lounges when card members fly domestically from airports with Virgin Australia lounges.
Cardholders can also earn Velocity status credits more easily – earning 50 status credits when they spend $25,000 and another 50 credits at $50,000, helping travellers reach higher Velocity Frequent Flyer tiers faster.
The card retains its existing perks, including a complimentary domestic return economy flight, 1.25 Velocity points per dollar on everyday spend, 2.25 points on Virgin Australia purchases and no cap on points. The card’s annual fee is $440.
The American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card has also been upgraded, now earning one Velocity point per dollar on everyday spend up to 12,000 points, then reverting to 0.75 points per dollar.
Card members receive a $50 statement credit when they spend $50 or more with Virgin Australia each year. The annual fee is $95.
Both cards offer complimentary travel insurance for domestic and international trips booked on the card, along with flexible payment options through American Express’ Plan It feature.
Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach said the upgrades deliver some of Velocity’s best and most exclusive benefits.
“Our partnership with American Express is key to making travel more rewarding for our members,” he remarked.
“With benefits like unlimited access to Virgin Australia lounges and increased points earning through everyday spending, members can maximise their travel experiences and boost their points balance.
“Card members can now use as little as 5,900 Velocity points for a one-way domestic flight from Sydney to Byron Bay or 35,500 points for a one-way business class trip from Sydney to Queenstown.
“There’s never been a better time to turn your next holiday into a cashless one.”
American Express Vice President of Loyalty and Partnerships, Liana Kohn-Gardner said, “through these new benefits we’ve introduced, it’s even more rewarding to travel”.
“For over a decade Velocity and American Express have joined forces to create a rewarding experience for people wanting more from their credit card,” she stated.
“Australians love travelling and earning points to offset the cost. With summer right around the corner, it’s a great time to hold an American Express Velocity credit card to get you closer to your next holiday.”
Virgin Australia recently revealed some big changes for Velocity members that will be rolled out over the next 12 months.
