ANOTHER AIRLINE COLLAPSES: European carrier Cobalt Air ground all flights

Europe has seen a second airline fall this month, with Cyprus’ largest carrier, Cobalt Air, grounding all flights last night and leaving thousands of travellers stranded.

Cobalt Air, a two-year-old Cypriot airline, confirmed its grounding in an online statement saying that it has indefinitely suspended services. The news comes less than two weeks after Danish carrier, Primera Air, ceased operations due to poor financial standing.

Although Cobalt Air didn’t elaborate on the fleet-wide grounding, it’s believed that it may have come after failing to secure financial support from a potential European investor, Cyprus-Mail.com reported.

“Future flights or services provided by Cobalt will be cancelled and will no longer operate.”

Passengers with tickets for upcoming flights have been advised NOT to travel to Larnaca Airport or any departure airport today as “no flights will operate and no Cobalt staff will be present”.

Unfortunately, the carrier also isn’t in a position to offer refunds, however, has encouraged travellers to get in touch with their Travel Agents or credit card providers.

“We sincerely apologise once again and would like to thank our very loyal customers for their support over the last two years of Cobalt operations.”
