Qantas has increased flights to Hamilton Island to keep in form with the influx of visitors that the jewel of the Whitsundays is experiencing.

Hamilton Island, off the Queensland coast of Australia, has long been one of Australia’s treasured destinations.
Located within the Whitsunday Islands, at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, the island is known to be a hub for those seeking to get in touch with Australia’s natural landscapes, calm turquoise waters, secluded beaches, beautiful weather, fascinating coral reefs and diverse flora and fauna.

It is then no wonder why airline giant, Qantas has decided to increase its flights to Hamilton’s pristine shores.
The gateway to the Great Barrier Reef has today welcomed the launch of the new Qantas service, flying direct from Brisbane, to the island.
Starting from November 28, the additional Brisbane route, flying four times a week, will address the growing demand among travellers looking to fly with a premium airline when visiting the popular holiday destination.
“Having celebrated the return of Qantas to the island in July, we are delighted to welcome the additional Qantas Brisbane – Hamilton Island service to compliment the current Qantas Sydney – Hamilton Island route,” Glenn Bourke, Hamilton Island’s CEO, said.
Mr Bourke claims that the most important factor with any new airline route is to match air capacity with consumer demand.
“Given the growth and high occupancy levels we’ve experienced on Hamilton Island over the last two years, we’re confident we will be able to provide the load factor to ensure the route is successful and commercially viable for the Qantas group.

Hamilton Island is currently serviced by three different carriers – Qantas along with its sister airline Jetstar, and Virgin Australia.
“We recognise that Hamilton Island is not only a popular Great Barrier Reef holiday destination but also a crucial commuter hub. This additional Qantas service is a positive development for the region and will provide increased flexibility for those travelling from mainland Queensland to the Whitsundays,” said Mr Bourke.
Qantas sale fares to Hamilton Island start from $79 one-way from Brisbane and $159 one-way from Sydney. Flights can be booked directly through Hamilton Island or Qantas.

What do you think? Will an increase of flights signal an increase in travellers to the island?
