You’ve heard of the 2009 flick Hotel for Dogs (if not, watch it right away) and now there’s a new airline for canines – Bark Air – flying good boys and girls of all shapes and sizes on one-way and return flights between NYC and LA and NYC and London on chartered Gulfstream G5 jets.

The first flights will take off on 23 May 2024 with tickets starting from a sweet USD$6,000 (around AUD$9,278).

Bark Air promotes a ‘dogs fly first’ philosophy that focuses on the crate-free comfort and happiness of canines first, and human companions second.

Bark Air dog on seat

‘Dog disrupter’ brand Bark launched Bark Air borne from the frustration of dog people who want to travel long distances with their furry kids and canine size limits on commercial carriers.

The initial routes were chosen based on travel demand and to locations where driving with a dog is not viable.

Bark Co-Founder & CEO Matt Meeker said: “We are excited to take the insights we’ve learned over the years to create an experience that is truly dog-first, which is drastically different from just accepting dogs – from the ground to the skies.”

Each Bark Air dog ticket comes with a pass for one human (aged 18-plus only) with additional adult passes available for purchase. It also includes a complimentary dog-friendly car service up to 48km once you land.

After booking, the Bark Air concierge will be in contact to collect info about your dog and travel plans. There’s even a Canine Flying Officer (CFO) Amelia to answer any curly questions.

On the travel day, dogs and their people arrive at the airport one hour before departure for a stress-free check-in and security screen process before embarking on the plane equipped with calming aids, treats, doggy beverages and more.

Bark Air flies out of New York’s Westchester County Airport to LA’s San Fernando Valley via Van Nuys Airport and to London via Stansted Airport.
