Cathay Pacific's costly loss

Cathay Pacific's baggage handlers have misplaced one costly bag - more specifically a million dollar bag - which disappeared while being transferred in Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific’s baggage handlers have misplaced one costly bag – more specifically a million dollar bag – which disappeared while being transferred in Hong Kong.

According to reports, the bag carrying a million dollars was lost on Friday night at Hong Kong International Airport.

Inside the suitcase there was NZ$1 million (or around AU$900,000).

It was one of 12 bags labelled ‘G4S International’ carrying around NZ$10 million in total. The cash was being delivered to the Bank of China through Cathay Pacific’s cargo subsidiary, Hong Kong Airport Services.

“Cathay Pacific transported a valuable cargo shipment [on 17 July] to Hong Kong.”

Cathay Pacific statement

“Upon arrival it was transferred to the cargo terminal where part of the cargo shipment was found missing.”

Surveillance footage shows three bags tumbled out of a trailer connected to an airport vehicle, which was towing the cash, Shanghaiist reported.

The bags are believed to have fallen out as the driver turned a corner.

It was around 10 minutes later that the driver realised the three bags were missing.

Two out of three of the bags were found on the tarmac, but one still unaccounted for.

Cathay Pacific said the case is under police investigation.

This is the reaction we imagine the head of Cathay had when he heard about the loss:
