What do you do when your Tasman rival tells you to ‘bring it’? You clear the runway, dress up a large kangaroo mascot and you DO NOT hold back.
That’s exactly what Qantas aka the Quan (the airline’s teen dance movie nickname) did yesterday afternoon when it accepted Air New Zealand’s running man challenge.
For those out of the loop, the running man challenge is the latest internet craze, which requires company employees to film themselves creatively performing the popular running man dance to Ghost Town DJ’s track ‘My Boo’.
Professionals from all industries have taken part in the challenge from firefighters to celebrities and even a few police officers.
Once the video is published online, the performers are required to pass the challenge on to another company. In Air New Zealand’s case, staff chose to dare their local competitor, Qantas, to a dance off.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, around 20 Qantas employees threw on their uniforms (one threw on a giant Kangaroo suit) and organised for quick choreographed dance to be filmed and published to Facebook.
The video opens with cabin crew watching Air New Zealand’s dance, saying they can do better.
Then, with the iconic Qantas aircraft tail in the background, employees strut towards the camera before breaking out into the running man.
While Air New Zealand had kettles and serving tray props, Qantas opted to wave around its female flight attendant scarves and light sticks.
The one minute video ends when the Qantas kangaroo mascot makes his grand entrance, driving in on an airport vehicle and then joining the dance.

So which carrier is next in line to join the challenge? Qantas passed it on to American Airlines. Will the AA team accept?
