Two people have been confirmed dead & at least another 25 injured (four seriously) over in the weekend, in a fire at the French ski resort of Courchevel.

Two people have been confirmed dead & at least another 25 injured (four seriously) over in the weekend, in a fire at the French ski resort of Courchevel.

The fire broke out at the French ski resort before dawn on Sunday in a three-storey building housing seasonal workers, including several foreigners.

Some 70 firefighters are believed to have been called out to battle the blaze, which caused damage to all three buildings at the resort, BBC reported.

Resort owners have yet to issue an official statement, however, social media videos showed people attempting to escape the fire by jumping from the building.

Local government leader, Frédéric Loiseau, told media that the identities of those killed have yet to be confirmed and injuries are a mix of burns and smoke inhalation.

“In the case of those seriously injured, it’s impossible to specify whether their injuries came from a fall. Because the fire was on the third floor, some people jumped to save their lives.”

“There were carbon monoxide emissions, and there were burns.”

Police officials have cornered off the building as they investigate the cause of the destructive fire.
