Delta Air Lines passengers are being told to expect delays after a system outage forced the airline to ground services for up to six hours yesterday.
The carrier’s global systems were affected by the issue, which disabled airport check-in, passenger advisory screens, the airline’s website and smartphone apps.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled and delayed and thousands of holidaymakers affected as technicians worked to bring operations back online.
The system is back up and running today, however, passengers are being advised of further delays as the airline attempts to reallocate affected guests on new services.
“Systems are fully operational and flights resumed hours ago but delays and cancellations remain as recovery efforts continue.”

Delta has also published a list of steps affected passengers should take to get themselves on another service. This includes bringing the original boarding pass to the gate of the new flight, checking status of flights online, and how to obtain a $200 travel voucher for extended delays.
Chief Executive, Ed Bastian, issued an apology through a Facebook video message, in which he said the team is working hard to get passengers to their destinations.
“I apologise for the challenges this has created for you.”
