Delta's bet to beat United & American or pay guests

Delta is so proud of its high on-time rate that it has offered to pay corporate clients if it slips behind its competitors American Airlines and United Airlines.

Pitched to corporate clients this week, the program will see the airline fork over travel credit to those accounts if its on-time arrival and flight completion rates fall behind the other major US-based airlines, Skift reported.

While airline reliability isn’t usually a priority when corporate clients select a carrier, Delta is hoping to convince them that with Delta’s punctuality they won’t just save time but also money.

According to the airline’s VP of Global Sales, Bob Somers, the airline has worked on its ‘operational success’ and believe no other airline is capable of matching it.

“Any carrier could replicate anything we do, whether it be seats or food or Sky Clubs, but they can’t replicate our performance.”

Delta Air Lines is currently the third on-time carrier, sitting just behind Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska. This position is a considerable jump from 15th position back in 2010.

Delta’s mainline flight were punctual 83.7 percent of the time last year, according to latest data.

The American government defines flights as being on time when they are within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

Do you think Delta will be able to maintain its punctuality?
