Emirates has welcomed its new Airbus A350-900 aircraft – the first of 65 on order and the first new aircraft type to join the fleet since 2008. It marks a significant investment and improvement with faster flying times and more sustainable features.
The brand-new A350 aircraft was officially handed over to EK on 25 November 2024, taking off on its ferry flight from Toulouse, France to Dubai to start service in January 2025.
In Dubai, the EKA350 aircraft will receive its finishing touches at Emirates Engineering before being officially unveiled at a special event later this week.
The aircraft will enter commercial service in January with the EK A350-900 making a maiden flight to its first destination, Edinburgh, followed by eight other hubs across the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
The A350 delivery flight was powered by a blend of jet fuel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and this next-generation aircraft promises improvements for passengers, payloads and pilots.
For passengers, the next-gen widebody aircraft is faster and quieter (but slower on landing) with low cabin altitude to help with jet lag. It’s also more fuel-efficient, consuming 25 per cent less fuel per seat compared to older Emirates jets.
The Emirates A350 features three cabin classes, accommodating 312 passengers in 32 next-gen Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 Premium Economy seats and 259 generously pitched Economy Class seats.
The wider cabin layout allows for spacious seating in all classes, including more of Emirates’ award-winning Premium Economy, plus the rollout of enhanced inflight entertainment with 4K screens, high-speed Wi-Fi and other options.
EK will also introduce a brand-new, six-way adjustable headrest to Economy Class on the A350.
The Dubai-based carrier recently resumed its full pre-pandemic flight schedule in Australia.
