In more hopeful news for the travel industry, Emirates has confirmed it is planning to restart its flights from Sydney and Melbourne to London from May 21.
The news comes just days after fellow Middle Eastern carrier Etihad confirmed it would be resuming its scheduled service from Melbourne to London Heathrow via Abu Dhabi on May 15.

From May 21 Emirates plans to resume scheduled flights nine destinations: Sydney, Melbourne, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Chicago and Toronto.
The airline will also offer connections in Dubai for customers travelling between the UK and Australia.
These flights will be available for booking on emirates.com/au.
With travel restrictions still firmly in place across most of the world, travellers, including those from Australia, will only be accepted on these flights if they comply with the eligibility and entry criteria requirements of their destination countries.
This includes approval from the Federal Authority for Identify and Citizenship (ICA) for UAE residents who wish to return to Dubai.
“We are pleased to resume scheduled passenger services to these destinations, providing more options for customers to travel from the UAE to these cities, and also between the UK and Australia”.

“We are working closely with the authorities to plan the resumption of operations to additional destinations,” he said.
“We have implemented additional measures at the airport in coordination with the relevant authorities with respect to social distancing and sanitization. The safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities, remain our top priority,” he concluded.
Travellers transiting through Dubai International airport will have theirtemperatures checked via thermal scanners.

In addition, Emirates’ cabin crew, boarding agents and ground staff who interact directly with travellers will don personal protective equipment (PPE) including a protective disposable gown and safety visor.
