Air India has unveiled fresh new aircraft livery and the phased launch of a revamped website, mobile app, loyalty program and cabin interiors. It’s all part of the airline’s new brand identity.

The new owners of Air India are actually its original owners. Tata Group founded the airline back in 1932 before India nationalised all its carriers in 1953. Now it’s got it back, Tata Group are giving Air India a whole new vibe.

It’s even got it’s own font

Colourwise, the new livery includes deep red, aubergine, and gold highlights with a chakra-inspired pattern. But the airline went a step further and had a custom-made font designed ‘Air India Sans’ font.

The goal, says the airline, was to “blend confidence and warmth to establish itself as premium, inclusive, and welcoming.”

“We are in the midst of a total transformation to reimagine the role of India’s flagship airline,” Air India CEO & MD, Campbell Wilson said.

Part of this transformation will see Air India implement significant enhancements to its services. The airline is investing in modernising its fleet, with agreements to acquire 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing at US$70 billion, and a US$400 million program to refurbish interiors and tech amenities.

The Airbus A350, sporting the new livery, will be revealed to travellers in December 2023.

What else is changing

Investments also cover improved web experience, a new customer contact centre, revamped loyalty program, and lounge expansions at global destinations.

The transformation reaches staff too, with 5,000 new hires, including 3,200 cabin crew and nearly 1,000 cockpit crew. A new aviation training academy in India will further upskill aviation professionals.

By the end of 2026, Air India plans to renew its entire long-haul fleet.
