First report over MH17 to be published

A report into the fatal crash of MH17 is set to be published today.

A report into the fatal crash of MH17 is set to be published today.

The Dutch Safety Board (DSB) is due to publish its first report in regard to the fatal crash of Malaysia Airlines MH-17 over conflict-riddled Ukraine on July 17, 2014 that killed 298 passengers.

While their access to the crash site was limited, as the safety of investigators could not be guaranteed due to heavy fighting in the area, the DSB were still able to retrieve the two black boxes from the flight.

The black boxes were said to be damaged. However, much of the information stored was able to be downloaded.

The report will first be given to the victims’ family members.

No press conference was held.

Eyewitnesses have indicated that Russian separatists were operating the BUK missile that shot at the Boeing 777 that was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

The Kremlin had previously suggested that the missile was shot from a Ukrainian fighter jet.

However, an eyewitness told the BBC that the crew struck him as Russian soldiers and not separatists.

“(The were) well disciplined, unlike the rebels, and did not wear the standard Ukrainian camouflage,” he said.

Australia and Malaysia will continue to attempt to send forensic teams to the site in the hopes that the wreckage will further assist in the full report which will take a year to culminate.

Among the victims, that were mainly Dutch locals, were thirty-eight Australian citizens and residents.

Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, has made further a top priority.

“We want to be absolutely confident that everything has been done to ensure that no one has left untended and alone,” he said.

The first bodies of the Australian victims arrived earlier this week.
