"Flight attendants were thrown up to ceiling" on shaky Air New Zealand flight

A female traveller has thanked Air New Zealand crew for handling a “difficult situation” when severe turbulence caused injuries and sent meals flying on a recent flight.

In an early Facebook post, which has now been removed, Emma Te Paa initially compared Sunday’s Flight NZ268 from Vietnam to Auckland to “hell” after taking off two hours behind schedule and then turning back around when “really bad turbulence” hit.

Te Paa said passengers were screaming, meals were sent flying and crew members were “thrown up to the ceiling” during the incident.

In a statement, Air New Zealand confirmed that the plane encountered turbulence 40 minutes into the flight and that the aircraft landed safely and “without further incident” in Vietnam on Sunday at 8.20am.

“Three cabin crew members and one passenger received minor injuries as a result of the incident.”

In a second Facebook post, Te Paa praised crew on their efforts in ensuring “everyone was safe and secure”.

“The AirNZ crew did an AMAZING job making sure everyone was safe and secure and keeping us all updated.”
