Travellers are being warned of potential flight delays and cancellations to and from Chile today as traffic controllers walk off the job.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) issued the warning overnight after receiving news of a 48-hour strike running today and tomorrow.
According to local news sources, the strike comes after two months of negotiations with the government over working conditions.
“You should expect significant delays or possible cancellations when flying to, from or within Chile (see Entry and Exit).”

KarryOn has contacted Qantas to see if the airline is anticipating any delays or cancellations.
However, LAN has confirmed to KarryOn in a statement that around 51 domestic flights have been cancelled for today and more could be rescheduled tomorrow – an update will be available later today.
The airline has confirmed that so far no international services have been affected nor have flights to and from Easter Island.
“In this period of high demand due to Christmas celebrations, the company is devoting all its resources to assist passengers and reiterates its commitment to the highest standards in safety and quality of service, regretting any inconvenience this may cause.”

Passengers affected by cancellations today are entitled to claim a refund or postpone their trip by up to 15 days after the original flight date with no penalty.
The airline is also offering for guests to change the route of their original ticket by paying fare differences.
LAN recommends those traveling within Chile to check the airline’s website for any updates.
