United Airlines scooped up a former Cathay Pacific manager to head up its sales in Australia and New Zealand.
Effective 20 May, Julie Reid will step into the role of Director of Sales for the two countries.
Based in Sydney, Reid will be responsible for overseeing the company’s Australian and New Zealand business activities with direct accountability for sales, revenue, marketing and administration.
She succeeds Alison Espley, who was recently promoted to managing director, Japan and Pacific Sales at United’s office in Tokyo, Japan.
Espley described Reid as ‘an outstanding industry professional’, who will bring with her nearly 30 years of aviation, travel and hotel expertise.
“I am confident that she will provide strong and inspiring leadership to the Australia and New Zealand sales team and I look forward to working with her in her new role.”

Reid previously held the position of sales and marketing manager in Australia for Cathay Pacific Airways, where she was responsible for sales and marketing strategies.
Prior to this, Reid held several senior management positions at travel management company HRG in Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
Throughout her 13 years at HRG, Julie managed multi-national and regional accounts and was responsible for various client, revenue and marketing activities.
United started service to Australia in 1979 and today operates daily Boeing 777-200 flights from Sydney to its San Francisco and Los Angeles hubs and daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights from Melbourne to Los Angeles.
United also operates a twice-weekly service from Cairns to its Guam hub.
