New Thai full-service international carrier Really Cool Airlines has announced it will launch operations by the end of 2023 offering international routes only. Interestingly, the carrier started out as a game with the goal to be an IRL airline. Here’s what we know so far.

With its tagline, “We Fly the Future”, Really Cool Airlines aims to offer a lifestyle product with innovation, safety, environment and a bespoke customer focus built into the overall experience.

Based in Bangkok, initial destinations appear to be Japan, Korea, China, London, Paris and Australia among others. Launch flight routes will be revealed in June 2023.

Really Cool Airlines CEO Patee Sarasin said the new venture is positioned between a luxury and budget carrier and will offer “an extraordinary experience to passengers”.

He said the new carrier will surpass previous iterations and promised enhanced safety and service to global standards.

Channel News Asia reported that Mr Patee, formerly CEO of low-cost airline Nok Air, has partnered with blockchain pioneers to launch “a unique company”.

He said that the airline will be the first ‘GameFi’ carrier run by “crypto-native citizens from our Really Cool Air GameFi”.

Thai Post noted that Really Cool Airlines is applying for an Air Operations License (AOL) and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), expected by September 2023.

Mr Patee said the airline is currently in negotiations to lease two aircraft by December and a further two planes at the beginning of 2024.

While it’s unknown what aircraft the new carrier will use, Really Cool Airlines has shared renderings of its livery on Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 planes, complete with headphones over the cockpit.
