Get ready South Australia because you’re about to go down in Fiji Airways history as the first Australasian state to see and receive the airline’s new Boeing 737 MAX.

During a one-year anniversary celebration in Adelaide last night, Fiji Airways confirmed that it would send its Boeing 737 MAX to the city later this year, making it the first in the region to be serviced by the carrier’s new aircraft model.

The first 737 MAX to service the Nadi-Adelaide route is expected to take off in December this year, which would be a month after the airline takes delivery of the plane.

Speaking at last night’s gathering, Fiji Airways’ Executive General Manager Corporate Affairs, Shaenaz Voss, said he’s delighted to send the aircraft to Adelaide where direct flights to Nadi have operated “successfully” over the last 12 months.

“The new MAX 8s, the first of this aircraft type to operate commercially in the region, will offer our guests superior customer comfort and amenities with modern interiors, reduced cabin noise, better lighting and more overhead cabin space.”
