The Flying Kangaroo announced this morning it would almost double capacity on the Sydney-Christchurch route between June and October this year.

Services will be operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will increase from the current seven to 12 flights per week to meet demand for trans-Tasman travel.

The announcement comes ahead of the forthcoming launch of Qantas’ permanent three times weekly Brisbane and Christchurch starting 18 June.

In addition to upping its Tasman services, the airline also added frequency on the Sydney-Hong Kong route, making it a double daily service earlier this month. Flights are operated by the Boeing 747 and Airbus A330.

Meanwhile, AirAsia X has increased flight frequency to eight destinations including Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
