What does the modern-day traveller look for in an airport lounge? Well, according to Air New Zealand they’re searching for a place that offers professionally made coffee, food on demand and technology.
So that’s what the airline has fitted into its new flagship international lounge, which opened at Auckland International Airport this week.
The space, which seats some 375 customers, was specifically designed to meet the changing needs of both leisure and business travellers.
Significantly larger than the previous space, the lounge measures at around 2,000 square metres and is located in a different area of the terminal to offer new runway views.
Inside, guests have access to 24 different styles of seating which according to the airline, allows them to create a lounge experience ‘that works best for them’.
Also new is the food theatre with cuisine cooked to order at meal times by the lounge’s resident chef.
For those eating on the run, there’s the buffet that’s accessible at any time of the day.
For travellers who like their coffee made a specific way the carrier has added a central bar area featuring barista-made coffee. The coffee can be pre-ordered directly from the Air New Zealand mobile app as well as premium New Zealand wines and signature cocktails.
Younger holidaymakers will enjoy the separate kids’ area equipped with books, interactive toys and children’s programmes while the business zone offers a range of seating and tables with electronic charging, Wi-Fi and printing facilities.
Other highlights of the new space include an outdoor terrace and fireplace offering a year-round outdoor area with views of the runway.
According to Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon, the new space was designed based on feedback from customers.
“Recognising that our customers travel for different reasons and have different needs, we’ve created a mix of separate zones to offer the upmost comfort and convenience for those looking to relax, refresh or get some work done before they fly.”
