Solomon Airlines ups services between Australia and Solomon Islands, increasing Brisbane to Honiara direct flights to five weekly services from 2 October 2023 and reinstating Brisbane-Munda flights for a second international gateway to the nation.
The increased Solomon Airlines flight frequency is due to increasing leisure travel demand with adjusted departure times to suit.
Direct Brisbane-Munda flights will also resume with new domestic connections to other leisure destinations such as Gizo, Seghe and Suavanao.
The news follows the arrival of the carrier’s second A320 international aircraft last week and the completion of the AUD$10.9 million Munda International Airport Terminal Building in September.
Solomon Airlines originally introduced direct international flights from Brisbane to Munda in 2019 to increase visitation to the Western Province.
Solomon Airlines CEO Mr Gus Kraus said: “The timing is very important. Our decision to invest in additional aircraft capacity now for Solomon Airlines, ahead of the Pacific Games in the short term and combined with our country’s improving aviation infrastructure, will bring lasting economic benefit to Solomon Islands and beyond.”
BNE-HIR flights will depart on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and twice on Sunday. The new Sunday service will depart at 12:05pm, allowing same-day domestic connections in Australia and arrival in Honiara ahead of the working week.
Direct BNE-Munda flights will depart on Saturdays with adjusted domestic flights in the Solomons for same-day transit from Munda to other destinations.
