Hong Kong Airlines touched down at Gold Coast Airport on 18 January 2025 with a full flight of 300 passengers, reinstating the direct route for the first time since 2018 and just before this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations.
The route also marks the Hong Kong-based full-service carrier’s return to long-haul services. It plans to expand its fleet progressively and add potential new routes within Australia.
Hong Kong Airlines will operate the HKG-OOL seasonal service on its Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft four times weekly until 15 February 2025.
It departs the Gold Coast on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:25am, touching down in Hong Kong at 5:20pm.

The carrier marked the route return with ceremonies at both hubs, including being welcomed with a lion dance performance at Gold Coast Airport.
Chair Yan Bo said: “We are delighted to have a full flight of passengers on our first voyage, coming to experience Queensland’s warm climate and exciting tourist activities.”
“We also look forward to welcoming visitors from the Gold Coast and the Queensland region to Hong Kong during our operation period, inviting them to immerse in the vibrant atmosphere of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations and enjoy authentic Hong Kong cuisine.”

Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said the seasonal service will bring 6,000 travellers to the Gold Coast.
“We’re delighted to welcome Hong Kong Airlines’ guests to our beautiful city of Gold Coast and can’t wait for them to experience the best of an Australian summer across the whole region,” she said.
“We hope this connection with Hong Kong will pave the way for longer-term services across our key markets in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China.”

Announced in August 2024, the service was supported by the Queensland Government’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, Experience Gold Coast and City of Gold Coast.
