Emirates is set to become the world’s first ‘Autism Certified Airline’, as it looks to break down barriers to inclusive travel and make flying more accessible for all.
The certification, awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), recognises Emirates’ efforts to support travellers with autism and sensory sensitivities.
More than 30,000 Emirates staff will complete autism and sensory-awareness training by 2025, equipping them to support travellers with diverse needs. This builds on prior training completed by 23,000 team members in 2023.
Travellers can also look forward to innovative services, including sensory guides. These digital tools are designed to help passengers navigate environments tailored to their preferences.
Additionally, Emirates will introduce sensory products, like fidget toys, aimed to reduce stress and improve comfort during flights.
This initiative is part of a broader mission to make travel more accessible, aligning with Dubai’s goal of becoming the world’s most accessible destination.
Emirates has already achieved ‘Certified Autism Center’ status for its Dubai check-in facilities, while Dubai International Airport (DXB) earned the same recognition in 2023.
The certification follows extensive research and audits conducted by IBCCES, which included input from individuals with autism, healthcare professionals and industry experts.
