Japan Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, receiving the state-of-the-art widebody aircraft from the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France on 14 December 2023 as part of 31 next-gen A350-900s and A350-1000s on order.

The brand-new A350-1000 is JAL’s latest international aircraft and will initially fly the airline’s Tokyo Haneda-New York JFK route from 24 January 2024.

The carrier is scheduled to receive its second aircraft by 31 March 2024, allowing it to expand to daily A350-1000 flights on the same route.

After the delivery of the third A350-1000, the airline will include its Tokyo (Haneda)-Dallas Fort Worth route.

JAL plans to replace its fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs with the new A350-1000 international aircraft.

New on board

JAL’s A350-1000 will have four classes: the six-suite First Class, 54-seat Business Class, 24-seat Premium Economy and Economy with a 155-seat capacity.

The new cabin interiors will reflect a Japanese aesthetic with stylish interiors and comfort.

The new First Class will feature JAL’s largest and most comfortable personal space yet with an adjustable sofa that converts to the passenger’s choice of a single or double bed with built-in headrest speakers and a 43-inch 4K display.

The carrier will introduce fully private rooms for Business Class on A350-1000 aircraft with lie-flat seats, world-first built-in headrest speakers and a large 24-inch monitor along with ample storage space.

Premium Economy passengers will enjoy larger privacy partitions and FIXBACK seats with easy recline and a legrest, while Economy seats will include JAL’s largest-ever monitors offered in Economy Class with a 13-inch 4K display and Bluetooth connectivity.

Eco credentials

In addition, the environmentally friendly A350-1000 aircraft offers improved fuel efficiency (15-25% reduction in CO2 emissions) and less noise compared to previous international aircraft models.

In line with its A350-1000 fleet expansion, JAL plans to replace one per cent of onboard fuel with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on Japan-bound flights to reduce CO2 emissions and further minimise its environmental impact.

The carrier has used A350-900s on high-volume Japanese domestic routes since 2019.
