Jetstar adds to its regional New Zealand network

Jetstar continues to go head-to-head with Air New Zealand on the other side of the Tasman, with three new services around regional New Zealand.

Jetstar continues to go head-to-head with Air New Zealand on the other side of the Tasman, with three new services around regional New Zealand.

Kicking off today are new flights from Auckland to New Plymouth and Palmerston North; as well as a Nelson to Wellington.

New destinations bring the carrier’s network in New Zealand up to nine, with services to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Palmerstone North, New Plymouth, Nelson and Napier.

According to the Jetstar’s CEO Australia and New Zealand, David Hall, Nelson and Napier have proved to be the most popular destinations for the carrier, with strong passenger numbers since launching.

He said over 600,000 seats will be on sale across the entire New Zealand regional network this year, giving Kiwis the chance to “fly more often for less”, Voxy reported.

“We’re very happy with how our flights from Auckland to Nelson and Napier have taken off with Kiwi travellers and we’re sure the three routes we’re launching today will also be popular.”

“Many passengers on our new regional services have never flown before or haven’t travelled by air for many years. That’s the kind of growth a low fares airline brings to new routes – new customers and more frequent fliers.”

In addition to helping people travel for less, Hall said Jetstar’s new services are contributing to growing tourism numbers in both Nelson and Napier.

He said both regions reported having a “very busy summer” thanks to the “Jetstar effect”.

“It’s exciting to see more Kiwis flying regionally and exploring more of their own country thanks to affordable travel options,” he said.

The new services will be operated by Jetstar’s five 50–seat Bombardier Q300 aircraft. Each aircraft has seats with a seat pitch of 32 inches and has a carry-on baggage maximum of seven kilograms or more.
