Jetstar starts "most-requested" BNE-BKK service – the only direct flights from Qld to Thailand

For the first time in five years, Queenslanders can fly nonstop from Brisbane to Bangkok with the launch of Jetstar’s first direct flights from the Queensland capital to the Thailand capital with one-way fares from $292 for today only.

For the first time in five years, Queenslanders can fly nonstop from Brisbane to Bangkok with the launch of Jetstar’s first direct flights from the Queensland capital to the Thailand capital with one-way fares from $292 for today only.

Jetstar will operate the thrice-weekly Brisbane-Bangkok direct flights on its Boeing B787 Dreamliners, carrying up to 100,000 passengers per year.

With a flight time of just over eight hours, the nonstop service will significantly reduce the current journey time via indirect routes, making it quicker and easier for Queenslanders to reach the Thai capital.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the new JQ service, which begins on 13 December 2024, is one of the “final pieces in the post-pandemic puzzle”.

JQ now links the Queensland capital to the Thailand capital.

“Thanks to Jetstar, Queensland and Thailand are again connected. Bangkok has been one of the most frequently requested services over the past three years, so it is no surprise that this flight is sold out,” he said.

Brisbane to Bangkok is the 14th new JQ route in 2024 with four routes launching in just the last fortnight. New flights include Brisbane to Osaka, Tokyo and Seoul.

In addition, JQ commenced its direct Sunshine Coast–Auckland route today with a planeload of Kiwis touching down at Sunshine Coast Airport in Maroochydore.

The first-ever, year-round service will fly thrice weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and create more than 58,000 new seats each year between the two destinations.

JQ Head of Network, Fleet Strategy & Planning Ted Knight said: “This is our 20th Brisbane route following a period of massive expansion flying out of Brisbane and across the Sunshine State.”

“The last time Queenslanders had a direct flight to Bangkok was before the pandemic, and our sold-out inaugural flight shows Jetstar’s low fares to Thailand’s capital will be popular.”

JQ’s Brisbane-Bangkok route will operate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday out of BNE, departing at 2:20pm and arriving in Thailand at 7:30pm local time.
