LATAM plans for aviation domination with new Qantas-esque uniforms

LATAM may have only just stepped out as the united LAN and TAM brand, but its bosses have already started planning for aviation domination.

Speaking at the carrier’s official unveiling of the new brand in Sydney earlier this week, Asia-Pacific Managing Director Patricio Aylwin, said the carrier has ambitious goals to become a top three airline worldwide.

This would mean knocking out the likes of Air New Zealand, Qantas and Etihad, which currently makeup the top three positions.

Aylwin told KarryOn that while the goal is indeed ambitious, the carrier has already taken a big step towards reaching its target through the consolidation of LAN and TAM into LATAM.

He explained that the single brand has given the carrier the reputation of the leading airline group in Latin America.

Additionally as a single brand, he believes the airline is better placed to operate more efficiently through one culture and consistency between both companies.

“These changes reinforce LATAM’s status as South America’s leading airline and will help us move towards our ultimate goal of becoming one of the world’s leading airlines.”

At this week’s official launch, Aylwin unveiled the line’s new designs for LATAM’s aircraft livery, uniforms and airport signage plus announced the airline’s expansion into Africa.

New aircraft livery features the logo wrapped around the tail and belly of the aircraft, while the word LATAM is printed boldly along the fuselage.

Over the next 18 months, around 23,000 LATAM employees will be sporting new uniforms designed by Brazilian fashion designer Pedro Lourenço.

With a touch of that Qantas-esque glamour, the new uniforms feature the indigo and coral of the LATAM logo across skirts, pants, scarves and trench coats.

“He [Pedro Lourenço] is very talented and his collaboration with LATAM staff to create the uniforms, which are designed to be comfortable and durable, has resulted in a uniform that’s stylish and can adapt to the different work and environments of LATAM staff.”
