New way to fly to South America: LATAM to launch Premium Comfort cabin

LATAM is set to give South American-bound travellers a new way to fly, unveiling its Premium Comfort cabin in a US$100 million (around AU$154 million) upgrade.

Slated for launch on its Boeing 787 fleet, the aircraft used for Australian services, the new class will debut from 2027.

Positioned between Premium Business and Economy, Premium Comfort aims to blend extra space with modern touches. This means wider seats, more recline, extra legroom and fewer passengers per cabin for a quieter trip.

Tech perks include 16-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth pairing, USB-C fast charging and personal power outlets. A refined food and beverage menu and attentive service round out the experience.

According to the carrier, the new cabin forms part of LATAM’s long-haul refresh, designed for travellers who want comfort without going full business class. Routes and booking details will be released closer to launch.

“Premium Comfort reflects our deep understanding of our customers’ evolving needs and our commitment to providing more options so every passenger can travel the way they want,” LATAM Airlines Group Vice President of Customers Paulo Miranda said.

“It is a product that combines comfort, space, and high-level service with exceptional value, and it also represents a statement of how we envision the future of flying from South America to the world: a journey where privacy, design, and the warmth of our region come together to create a unique experience.”

In June, South America’s largest carrier announced it will more than double its non-stop flights between Australia and Santiago (Chile) from late 2025, significantly expanding options for Aussie travellers heading to Latin America.

According to the airline, recent industry data shows a 12 per cent rise in Australian bookings to South America since the start of 2025.
