Malaysia unveils Sharia-compliant airline

Abu Dhabi may be aiming to become a hub for Halal travel, but Malaysia is hoping to be the main provider of air services for Muslim flyers.

Abu Dhabi may be aiming to become a hub for Halal travel, but Malaysia is hoping to be the main provider of air services for Muslim flyers.

The Southeast Asian country this week launched inaugural operations of the world’s first Sharia-compliant airline, which follows practises of Sharia-law in the sky.

There are already sharia-friendly airlines, however, Rayani Air has been accepted as the first fully compliant airline ‘by relevant authorities’.

In-flight meals served on Rayani Air will be completely halal – meaning poultry or meats will have to slaughtered by hand and blessed by a butcher.

If you enjoy a glass of red wine while flying then you’ll want to avoid this airline, which will not serve alcohol of any kind.

Muslim flight attendants will have to wear the hijab while non-Muslim crew will be expected to dress ‘decently’.

Pork will not be served on board and prayers will also be made before take-off.

The airline’s MD staff are proud to work for the first airline to be ‘sharia-compliant based on guidelines by relevant authorities’.

“The sharia-compliant aspects will be refined as time goes by.”

The airline’s first service took off on Sunday from Kuala Lumpur to the resort island of Langkawi.

Earlier this year, the first-ever B2B platform focusing on Muslim travel launched with comprehensive search and booking capabilities on a full portfolio of Muslim friendly tour packages, excursions and activities.
