More seats: Singapore Airlines ups A380 capacity to Melbourne and Sydney

Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A380 aircraft will return to Melbourne for the first time in four years next year with Sydney to double its services with a second daily A380 from May 2023 to add more premium and economy seats.

Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A380 aircraft will return to Melbourne for the first time in four years next year with Sydney to double its services with a second daily A380 from May 2023 to add more premium and economy seats.

Between Melbourne and Singapore from 16 May to 28 October 2023, Singapore Airlines will operate SQ237 and SQ228 services on its A380 instead of the current Boeing 777-300ER.

In addition, Sydney will welcome a second A380 from 17 May 2023 with SQ221 and SQ232 flights operating on the super jumbo instead of the current A350-900 medium-haul aircraft.

The return of a second A380 to Sydney will see the airline reach 98 per cent of its pre-COVID seat capacity from the NSW capital with Suites or First Class offered on three of the four daily flights between Singapore and Sydney.

Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President South West Pacific Louis Arul said the return of the A380 to Melbourne will deliver a welcome boost ahead of strong travel demand for the 2023 Northern Hemisphere summer.

Things are looking up with extra capacity from Australia to Singapore with Singapore Airlines.

“Deploying the A380 over the peak period will see us exceed our pre-COVID seat capacity to Melbourne, operating at 110 per cent compared to our operations in January 2020,” Mr Arul said.

“Returning double-daily A380 operations to Sydney will also enhance the product offering for our customers, delivering more seats across our premium cabins as well as increased capacity in Economy Class.

“These additional A380 flights to Melbourne and Sydney will help to deliver even more opportunities for Australians to travel for business or pleasure in 2023.”

Singapore Airlines will also increase and reinstate services across East and South-East Asia, including popular destinations such as Osaka, Seoul, Taipei and Busan to restore its pre-pandemic network by March 2024.
