Naarm Way: MEL’s T4 gets $70M express link connection to Tullamarine Freeway

Melbourne Airport’s new Naarm Way express road will streamline the arrivals process for faster domestic departures via an elevated road linking the Tullamarine Freeway to the Terminal 4 Transport Hub.

Melbourne Airport’s new Naarm Way express road will streamline the arrivals process for faster domestic departures via an elevated road linking the Tullamarine Freeway to the Terminal 4 Transport Hub.

The $70 million Naarm Way project provides a new dedicated exit for motorists, bypassing all intersections between the freeway and Melbourne Airport’s Terminal 4 and offering easier parking access at T4.

Named after the traditional Aboriginal name for Melbourne, domestic passengers will benefit most from the new link road with direct access to Jetstar, Rex and Bonza flights.

Naarm Way is the first stage of MEL’s elevated road system and represents its largest road investment since Airport Drive opened in 2015.

Early works have commenced on Stage 2 for a new road connecting Naarm Way to the T123 carpark and a new dedicated pick-up and drop-off zone on carpark levels 2 and 3.

Designed to improve traffic flow during peak periods, Stage 2 is due for completion in 2026.

Chief of Ground Transport Jai McDermott said the airport is making significant investments in infrastructure to improve the traveller experience.

Melbourne Airport announced other upgrades and improvements recently, including a new-look duty-free retail space for arrivals and departures by 2026.

It has also started work on a major luggage handling upgrade using a $500 million state-of-the-art bag tracking initiative.
