FUTURE PLANES: Airbus has a seat that’ll know how much you eat & pee

Your airplane cabin may know a lot more about you in the future, like how often you go to the toilet, how much time you spend sitting in your seat and what you like to eat and drink.

Your airplane cabin may know a lot more about you in the future, like how often you go to the toilet, how much time you spend sitting in your seat and what you like to eat and drink.

It’s all part of Airbus’ new Connected Cabin concept where new smart cabins will collect data wirelessly and monitor different parts of the cabin in real time.

It’s almost like a Big Brother flying experience right? Airbus says the data collected will be put into good use to help personalise the flying experience for passengers.

Mindblown

Airbus’ new Connected Cabin idea isn’t just about tracking passengers movements either, it would also be a way to streamline all process on board. The end goal to save time and money and to make everyone’s lives easier.

For instance, the galley will have sensors that can tell how many drinks are left on board or if all of the cooking equipment is locked in place for takeoff.

The smart cabin would automate a lot of things which currently need to be checked manually by the crew. Automating these activities could help aircraft turn around quicker.

There would also be an integrated ordering system and some equipment could even be controlled remotely, like warming up a pot of coffee.

Other perks would include cabin crew simply checking a screen to see if everybody’s armrests are down for take-off and landing, rather than walking around the entire cabin.

Airbus wants the technology to be integrated into every part of an aircraft’s cabin.

The project is still only a concept being tested but it’s certainly an insight into what’s to come in the future.
