Bali-bound travel keeps climbing, and Victorian travellers are about to gain another way to get there. Indonesia AirAsia has confirmed a new daily service from Melbourne to Denpasar, starting on 20 March 2026.
Giving Aussies yet more choice on one of the country’s busiest leisure routes, the new service will link Melbourne Airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar). The new service marks the low-cost carrier’s fourth Australian port after Perth, Darwin and Adelaide.
Despite Bali’s popularity, the exploration needn’t stop there. With the new service, Australians will also have a new pathway to other Indonesian destinations, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Lombok and Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo National Park.
Travellers can also move beyond Indonesia using AirAsia’s Fly-Thru service, which allows travellers to connect to other international destinations within the carrier’s network without the need to collect luggage during transit.
AirAsia, quoting Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), says Australians made up more than 23 per cent of Bali’s 3.9 million arrivals between January and July 2025 – easily the island’s largest international market.
“This strategic launch strengthens Indonesia AirAsia’s presence in Australia and opens a key gateway connecting Southeast Asia to southern Australia,” Indonesia AirAsia Captain and Acting CEO Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman said.
“The daily Melbourne-Denpasar route reflects our goal to provide greater, more affordable and flexible access between Indonesia and Australia.
“This initiative also strengthens social and economic ties, encourages business collaboration and gives travellers more opportunities to experience the unique culture of both destinations.”
Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne, called the new service “a tangible step in enhancing the strategic partnership between Australia and Indonesia”.
“Beyond boosting tourism flows, this improved connectivity will benefit cooperation in economic, education and cultural sectors, as well as encourage collaboration between communities in both countries,” he added.
“With this increased access, the relationship between Indonesia and Australia will continue to grow and deliver mutual benefits.”
To mark the launch, AirAsia has released promo fares from Melbourne to Bali from AU$199 one way.
