Flights to Newcastle Airport resume after roof collapses

Flights to and from Newcastle Airport are back up and running this morning after a temporary suspension in services due to storm damage over the weekend.

Flights to and from Newcastle Airport are back up and running this morning after a temporary suspension in services due to storm damage over the weekend.

The gateway’s Facebook followers were notified on Sunday that all flights to and from the gateway were cancelled when the roof partially collapsed in the check-in hall.

According to the post, the damage was caused by a storm, which left “a deluge of rain water” on the roof.

Gateway officials cleared the hall and suspended all flights while it worked with contractors to assess the damage.

By around 7.00pm, the airport had restored power and utilities in the hall, however, said the check-in process at the airport would need to be done manually while the check-in hall is repaired.

“Passengers travelling [to the gateway] are advised to arrive at the airport with extra time to allow for the manual check-in process.”

Travellers have been urged to check the status of their flight with their airline and check the gateway’s website or app for more information.

“Thank you for your comments and understanding during this unforeseen circumstance.”
