Not one, but two dozen new aircraft for Oman Air

Oman Air is on a mission to grow its business quickly, with plans to operate a fleet of more than 50 aircraft over the three years.

The 21-year-old airline has an order down for 24 new planes to be delivered between now and 2017. The new additions will increase the airline’s fleet from the current 30 to around 58.

On order are six Boeing 787 Dreamliners; three Airbus A330s; and six Boeing 737-800s. In addition, there are six Boeing 737-900ERs on order, making Oman Air the first Gulf carrier to fly the aircraft.

Speaking at a showcase of the airline’s first two arrivals – an A330-300 and a B737-900 – Paul Gregorowitsch said new aircraft mark the start of a ‘wonderful’ new chapter in Oman Air’s history.

The new Airbus A330-300 features 24 new Business Class seats at 21-inches wide and fitted in a 2-2-2 configuration.

Each seat converts into a 77-inch long, fully flat bad and has an electrically-operated backrest, seat bottom, seat depth and leg rest controls.

There’s also a folding armrest plus one-piece meal tables and a cocktail table.

The plane has been fited with Airbus’ ALNA system, which gives passengers access to onboard wifi and mobile phone usage.

Travellers can access video on demand using the inflight entertainment system. The system has a wide range of movies, music, games and information. It can also charge devices through a power outlet and two USB ports.

The new Oman Air Boeing B737 cabin offers 12 Recaro-designed Business Class seats in a 2-2 configuration.

Each seat features electric backrest/seat bottom, leg rest and seat depth controls, a 10.6-inch in-arm video screen, PC power outlet, USB port, reading light and literature pocket.

Oman Air has also fitted the same Thales AVANT in-seat audio video on demand (AVOD) system in this short and medium haul aircraft as it has in its new long haul A330s.
