Set to open two years after the original deadline, the much-anticipated Perth Airport rail link will be fully operational from 10 October 2022 with the connection offering passengers an 18-minute trip between the airport and CBD for $5 one-way.
The Forrestfield-Airport Link line will service 85 per cent of flights daily with the first train leaving Perth just after 5am and the last departing around midnight.
The new airport station is located near terminals one and two and a free shuttle bus service will take passengers to the other two terminals.
Announced in 2013, the $1.9 billion Perth Airport rail line project was hampered by problems, including worker injuries, the flooding of a tunnel, labour and material shortages and mobile phone black spots.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the Perth Airport rail link has been a challenging project with the operating cost at approximately $42 million a year, which would be offset by revenue determined by passenger numbers.
About 20,000 passengers are expected to use the rail line each day, increasing to 29,000 by 2032.
The news comes as more international routes resume from Perth Airport this year, including Qantas services to Johannesburg and Jakarta and AirAsia flights to Bali, with the new rail link providing connectivity for Perth passengers.
