Pho real? Guess which international carrier is finally coming to BNE?

Four years after teasing services, Vietjet will start twice-weekly non-stop flights between Brisbane and Ho Chi Minh City from 16 June 2023, connecting Queensland and Vietnam directly for the first time with one-way Eco-Class launch fares from AUD$200.

Four years after teasing services, Vietjet will start twice-weekly non-stop flights between Brisbane and Ho Chi Minh City from 16 June 2023, connecting Queensland and Vietnam directly for the first time with one-way Eco-Class launch fares from AUD$200.

Vietjet had originally slated to start non-stop services between Brisbane and Ho Chi Minh City in 2019.

The new three-year deal, part of the Queensland Government’s $200 million Attracting Aviation  Fund, will see Vietjet flights between BNE and SGN expand to four weekly services by year three.

The Vietnamese low-cost carrier will operate an Airbus A330-300 for the brand-new route to Brisbane with an aircraft configuration of 12 business seats plus 365 seats in economy.

Queensland travellers will be able to connect to 52 destinations within Vietnam as well as Vietjet’s international network, including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, mainland China, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia and Europe.

Vietjet will also commence direct services from Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City from April 2023 with further Australian cities slated.

Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said Vietjet’s arrival enhances BNE’s role as a key Asia-Pacific gateway.

“Vietnam is a rapidly growing market for Queensland and we are delighted to have Vietjet join the BNE family. To have Vietnam and the Sunshine State connected for the first time by non-stop flights will deliver benefits in two countries,” he said

“This historic new service will enable family and friends in Vietnam easy connections to Queensland and cut hours off a journey.”

Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thanh Son said the addition of Brisbane flights would be a catalyst for tourism and trade growth between the two nations.

“We are very excited to fly the first direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Queensland. The addition of Brisbane would be another development to broadly connect Australia and Vietnam,” he said.

Flight VJ83 will arrive from Ho Chi Minh City every Monday and Friday at 9:10pm with VJ84 departing Brisbane at 11:10pm.
