Box office binge: What Qantas customers watched in 2023

With more than 2,500 hours of on-demand movies, TV shows and more to binge during your Qantas flight, which frequently watched titles were QF flyers’ faves this year? Here’s the list of the most popular Qantas inflight entertainment in 2023.

From new-release flicks and blockbusters to top TV shows and reality faves, there’s a lot of choice when it comes to inflight entertainment.

And as international travel rebounded in 2023, QF passengers spent around 80 million hours using the airline’s inflight entertainment, up from 60 million last year. Usage of Qantas’ free Wi-Fi was also up 10 per cent on 2022.

In 2023, whether it was showing our local bias or flying the flag for Aussie content, these two homegrown talents were clear winners in the inflight entertainment stakes.

Box office hit Barbie, starring Australian actress Margot Robbie, was the most-watched movie of 2023, while global sensation and Brisbane’s own Bluey was the most popular kids entertainment program.

The Julia Roberts-George Clooney vehicle, Ticket to Paradise, which was shot in Queensland, also made it into the top three most-watched onboard movies this year.

Aussie shows also dominated the small screen with Five Bedrooms as the most-watched comedy, The Australian Wars as the most-watched documentary and Couples Therapy Australia as the most popular reality show.

However, US hit The White Lotus was the number-one TV show with Qantas customers spending a collective 300,000 hours watching the second season (set in Sicily) this year.

Meditation continues to be a popular choice to help travellers unwind – Nature Spirit by Jens Buchert was the most listened-to audio album this year, while Australian author Liane Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall was the most popular audiobook.

Whitney Houston was the most popular pop artist, following huge interest in the biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, also available on QF inflight entertainment.

And when it came to movie snacks and refreshments, Qantas passengers consumed almost four million bottles of wine, 1.6 million cookies, 1.8 million chocolate bars and 1.1 million ice-creams in 2023.
