Qantas delivers 'Gaynettos' to desperate Aussie living in NYC

We’re torn between caring about how constructed this Qantas/Cornetto story is, and desperately wanting a cute Qantas pilot to deliver this new ice cream to us.

If you weren’t paying attention to the Flying Kangaroo’s Twitter and SnapChat accounts over the weekend, then you kind of missed out on a sweet and tasty story that involved a team of Qantas staff, an esky filled with Cornetto’s new Gaytime-flavour ice cream and one desperate Aussie living in New York City.

Let’s rewind back to the beginning.

It all started early Friday, when Aussie living in New York City, Adam, realised Streets had announced a new ice cream that combines both a Golden Gaytime and a Cornetto.

Yum right?

Well, he, just as many of us did after the announcement, took to social media to share our excitement.

But Adam didn’t just admit to being “an Australian homosexual having a panic attack” over the news, he turned to Qantas in a desperate attempt to convince the airline to “take me home immediately” so he can get a taste of the new treat.

The social media team over at Qantas spotted the Tweet and decided it was “never okay” to miss out on a ‘Gaynetto’ (because apparently this guy’s life isn’t cool enough living in the Big Apple! Pipe down Adam).

So the carrier pulled Streets Ice Cream into the conversation on Twitter, and asked if it would be okay to “take a piece of home to Adam in New York”.

Of course, the answer was yes, or more specifically “I’m sure we can help make this happen”, and before we could catch up on the SnapChat pictures, an esky full of Gaynettos were passing through priority check-in and flying across the Pacific.

Frequent updates on the ice cream’s journey were posted to SnapChat, including one where a flight attendant tried to sneak a Gaynetto for himself and several checks to see if they were still frozen.

Once in New York, the esky (maned by two lovely Qantas staff members) took an iconic New York taxi over to Time Square where Adam finally got his hands on not just one, but several Gaynettos.

And unsurprisingly, Adam was happy.

So happy, he even gave one to a street performer dressed as the Statue of Liberty.

Giving us major #dessertenvy, the Aussie expat then enjoyed his frozen treat while being crowned ‘Miss Gaynetto’.
