Rex has boosted its domestic jet fleet, welcoming its latest and 10th Boeing 737-800NG in Brisbane yesterday, which goes straight into service and brings its B737s to double figures.

The new B737-800NG aircraft, which will bear the registration VH-8ZL, arrived in Australia on 13 December 2023 after a ferry flight from Goodyear, Arizona.

Before departing the US, the aircraft underwent scheduled heavy maintenance and painting, enabling it to enter service this week before the start of the busy holiday season.

The airline has received three 737-800NGs since July 2023 and expects to secure at least one more aircraft before the end of the 2024 financial year, subject to availability.

Rex Deputy Chairman John Sharp said: “This steady growth allows us to build more depth into our schedule by adding additional frequencies on our most popular routes while at the same time allowing us to look at how we might also add more capital cities to our network.”

The Aussie airline currently has 10 domestic routes connecting capital cities and holiday destinations in five states.

It also added a new Adelaide-Brisbane route in October 2023, while slashing its Sydney services.
